The current weather situation is causing problems for energy suppliers again and again. The question arises whether wind and photovoltaics with appropriate storage make a complete energy transition possible. Vegetable oil combined heat and power plants could fill this gap sensibly, because in addition to electricity, they also generate heat, which is urgently needed in the cold season. The technology has been tried and tested since the 1990s and is readily available. Conversion kits are available for almost all industrial engines that are suitable for it. Such an energy mix could ensure sufficient security of supply and flexibility.
